Military forces operating under the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, successfully freed 33 individuals who were seized by terrorists in the Tsafe Local Government Area of Zamfara State. Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, the media officer for the operation, reported that the rescue occurred after a rapid deployment prompted by intelligence gathered on August 8, 2026.
Collaborating with local police, the soldiers tracked the gunmen to the Magazu region. Upon locating the captors, a brief confrontation ensued. The intensity of the military response caused the assailants to retreat into the nearby brush, leaving the 33 victims behind unharmed. The military is currently conducting follow-up operations to locate the suspects.
The Theatre Commander for the region praised the unit for their efficiency and adherence to professional standards during the mission. The command remains focused on securing critical transit routes and protecting civilians from criminal threats.
