Nigerian Navy intercepts sabotage attempt on Bonny oil wellhead

The Nigerian Navy intercepted a sabotage attempt at a Bonny wellhead, recovering vandalism tools and arresting one suspect during Operation Delta Sentinel.

Security forces in Rivers State successfully prevented an attempt to damage a vital oil installation in Bonny. Operating under the banner of Operation Delta Sentinel, members of the Forward Operating Base in Bonny discovered a fibre boat acting suspiciously near the Renaissance African Energy Company Limited Oloma Flow Station.

Navy Captain Abiodun Folorunsho, the Director of Information, stated that the suspects abandoned their vessel upon noticing the patrol team. Inside the boat, officers discovered various tools used for vandalism, such as a generator, a grinder, wrenches, and chisels. These instruments were clearly intended for tampering with the wellhead to steal crude oil.

Authorities conducted a joint search with other security agencies, leading to the capture of one individual linked to the crime. While the boat and tools are now in custody for further investigation, the Navy continues to hunt for the remaining participants. This intervention serves as a significant win for the Navy in its mission to eliminate pipeline vandalism and protect national assets from economic disruption.
