They Viewed Me as the Next Drogba in England, but I’m Not — Lukaku

Striker Romelu Lukaku has addressed the comparisons that have accompanied him throughout his career, particularly during his time in English football.

Frequently compared to Chelsea legend Didier Drogba because of his physical presence and playing style, Lukaku has stated that these comparisons are misguided.

“In England, they wanted to put me in a box. They see someone built like me and think: new Drogba,” Lukaku said during an interview with Friends of Sports released on Wednesday via YouTube.

The Belgian striker, who has played for prominent Premier League clubs such as Chelsea, Manchester United, and Everton, emphasized that although his physical presence is a notable aspect of his game, his playing style is quite different from that of Drogba.

“I’m not like that. Didier was more back to goal; he could hold up the ball no matter where you play it in from. That wasn’t my style,” he explained.
