TCN Reports Gombe-Borno Transmission Tower Destroyed by Vandals
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has reported that its tower T372, located along the Gombe-Damaturu-Maiduguri 330kV transmission line, has been destroyed by vandals.
Ndidi Mbah, the general manager of public affairs at TCN, stated in a release on Sunday, September 22, that the incident occurred in Kasaisa village, Gujba LGA, along the Biu-Damaturu road on Saturday, September 21, around 1:44 a.m.
“This development has cut off power supply to the entire Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State, and up to Maiduguri in Borno State,” TCN explained.
The vandals reportedly severed all four tower footings, leading to the collapse of tower T372, which was discovered by TCN’s linesmen during an emergency patrol.
In response to this attack, TCN’s engineers are working to temporarily restore power to Damaturu via a 33kV transmission line from Potiskum, while Maiduguri will receive power from the Maiduguri Emergency Power Plant (MEPP).
TCN announced that efforts will begin immediately to dismantle and remove the collapsed tower to facilitate the reconstruction and restoration of the transmission line.
The company urged the public to report any suspicious activities or individuals near their transmission infrastructure to law enforcement or TCN offices. TCN assured that it would expedite reconstruction efforts to quickly restore power to the affected areas.
