Swansea City midfielder Goncalo Franco sidelined with ankle injury

Swansea City midfielder Goncalo Franco is expected to miss up to three months of action after sustaining an ankle ligament injury during a training game.

Swansea City midfielder Goncalo Franco will be unavailable for 10 to 12 weeks due to an ankle ligament injury. The 25-year-old sustained the damage during an accidental collision in a private training match against Exeter City at Fairwood last Saturday.

This absence presents a significant challenge for the club as the Championship season approaches in one month. Franco, who moved from Moreirense in 2024, has been a key contributor with six goals in 91 matches.

Head coach Vitor Matos is now navigating a midfield shortage. With Ethan Galbraith moving to Stoke City and Malick Yalcouye returning to Brighton after his loan concluded, the squad depth in the center of the pitch has decreased. Current available options include Marko Stamenic, Jay Fulton, Melker Widell, and Leo Walta.

Swansea prepares to begin their 2026-27 campaign with a Carabao Cup fixture against Birmingham City on August 8, followed by a league opener against Stoke City.
