Suspected cultists attacked and killed a 30-year-old barber, Toheen Folarin, on Tuesday, January 7, in the Obantoko area of Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State.

A statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, says ‘The victim was said to be working in his shop when, suddenly, at about 10pm, the assailants emerged and shot him on the left side of the chest. Before fleeing the scene, the assailants severed the victim’s left hand and made away with it.’

Upon receiving the information, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Obantoko mobilized a team of detectives, supported by a patrol team and the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Adatan Area Command, to the scene.

There, they discovered the victim lying in a pool of blood with one of his hands severed.

A tense situation arose as irate youths strongly protested the officers’ attempts to move the body to the mortuary, insisting that, as a Muslim, the deceased must be buried according to Islamic rites.

Odutola stated that the police command has launched a manhunt for the perpetrators and assured that the heightened tension and unrest following the incident have been brought under control.
