Suspected Armed Herders Kill Farmer in Benue
A farmer, Alphonsis Iorbe, was reportedly killed by suspected armed herders in Tse-Kanji, a community in Ayilamo, Logo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The attack reportedly took place around 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday while the victim was working on his farm.
Security analyst Zagazola Makama shared the incident in a post on X on Wednesday, stating that a distress call led to the rapid deployment of security operatives to the scene.
He revealed that personnel of the Nigerian Army, along with police officers and other security agents, responded promptly to the scene.
“The farmer’s body was later recovered, photographed for record purposes, and moved to the Ayilamo Mortuary, where it is expected to undergo a post-mortem examination,” Makama wrote.
Authorities have stated that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the perpetrators, as part of broader efforts to prevent further violence in the troubled region.
Benue remains one of the states most severely affected by the ongoing farmer-herder clashes, which continue to claim lives and destabilize rural communities.
