Sunday Igboho Details His Escape During 2021 DSS Raid on His Ibadan Home

Sunday Igboho explains the circumstances surrounding his survival during the 2021 DSS raid on his Ibadan home, refuting rumors and detailing his evasion of security operatives.

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, widely recognized as Sunday Igboho, recently shared his experience of evading Department of State Services (DSS) agents during the notorious July 2021 raid on his Ibadan property. This security operation occurred on July 1, 2021, amidst intense political friction between Igboho and the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Speaking to a delegation of Muslim leaders, Igboho revealed that he remained inside his Soka residence during the entire ordeal, even as agents searched for him. He described hearing gunshots around 1:30 am and noted that the operatives gained entry by using explosives to destroy his security barriers. Although he briefly considered surrendering, he ultimately decided against it due to concerns for his safety.

Igboho recounted that he shouted at the intruders to understand their intentions while they fired blindly into the premises. He confirmed that his personal assistant was coerced at gunpoint to help open doors. Refuting local legends, he explicitly denied transforming into a cat to escape, clarifying that agents mistakenly killed a cat during the raid, thinking it was him. He also mentioned that a partially blind brother was unfortunately shot by the intruders during the confusion. Igboho credited his survival to divine intervention and the prayers offered by religious leaders prior to the event.
