Sunday Igboho Defends Security Campaign as Anti-Crime, Not Ethnic Bias

Activist Sunday Igboho has clarified that his security advocacy in Nigeria is strictly anti-criminal and not an attack on any ethnic group, rebuffing calls for government intervention against his campaigns.

Yoruba Nation activist Sunday Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho, has clarified that his push for better security in Nigeria’s South-West is aimed at dismantling criminal networks rather than targeting any specific ethnic group. This statement was a direct reply to the Concerned Fulani People of Nigeria (CFPN), a group that recently asked President Bola Tinubu and Governor Seyi Makinde to restrain him.

Through his spokesperson, Olayomi Koiki, Igboho rejected the claims that his activism promotes ethnic division. He emphasized that his advocacy focuses on curbing kidnapping, rape, banditry, and murder. He argued that these crimes affect all Nigerians and should be handled by law enforcement without regard to the perpetrator’s background. He labeled the CFPN’s accusations as a distraction from the reality of rural insecurity.

Igboho praised the current leadership of security agencies, including Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun and the Department of State Services, for their recent actions against criminal gangs. He encouraged citizens to support these official efforts rather than focusing on divisive rhetoric. Ultimately, the activist urged for a unified national approach to ensure safety and justice for all citizens, noting that criminality lacks a specific race or origin.
