President Bola Tinubu has formally acknowledged the successful recovery of 308 individuals who had been held captive following various attacks in Kwara and Niger states.
The group included 163 residents taken from Woro Community in Kaiama, Kwara State, alongside 145 victims from Niger State. Their freedom was secured within the Kainji Lake National Park Forest in the New Bussa area of Niger State. This achievement resulted from a sophisticated, intelligence-led mission executed by the National Counter-Terrorism Centre, supported by the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Department of State Services, and the Nigeria Police Force. This event marks the most significant single-day rescue mission undertaken by the unified security services.
President Tinubu praised the security teams for their courage and efficient cooperation. He noted that the operation highlights the rising effectiveness of local security agencies. Currently, the survivors are undergoing medical assessment and receiving care at the Wawa Cantonment facility. Once cleared, they will be released to state authorities for family reunification.
Moving forward, the President has ordered a reinforcement of national security assets. He specifically requested improved early warning systems and better community intelligence to stop future kidnappings. The administration maintains a firm commitment to neutralizing threats and ensuring the safety of all Nigerian citizens.
