The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has offered prayers of thanks following the release of students and staff abducted from the Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State. After 56 days of captivity, these individuals have finally returned home.
Archbishop Daniel Okoh, the President of CAN, conveyed his relief that these families have been reunited. He praised the efforts of President Bola Tinubu, national security agencies, the Nigeria Police, and local security groups like the Amotekun Corps and vigilantes for their roles in the rescue.
While acknowledging this success, Archbishop Okoh emphasized that the fight against insecurity is far from finished. He pointed out that many other families in regions such as Borno and Niger are still awaiting the return of their loved ones. He urged the public to remember that the pain of these families remains intense, regardless of media coverage.
The organization highlighted the necessity of providing comprehensive rehabilitation, including medical and psychological support, for the rescued victims as they process their traumatic experience. CAN also expressed appreciation for the support promised by Governor Seyi Makinde to assist the survivors in their recovery.
In closing, the association called on the government and security forces to maintain their focus until all Nigerians held by criminals are brought back to safety. CAN maintained that true security is only achieved when every citizen can live and travel without the constant threat of kidnapping.
