South-South APC Governors Back Tinubu for 2027 Reelection Bid
Governors and key political figures of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Nigeria’s South-South region have thrown their support behind President Bola Tinubu’s bid for a second term in 2027.
This endorsement was made public during a high-level stakeholders’ interactive session held in Benin City, Edo State, over the weekend.
According to a statement released by Fred Itua, Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, the leaders lauded Tinubu’s leadership style and reaffirmed their commitment to the continuity of his Renewed Hope Agenda. They argued that a second term would allow him to deepen his developmental reforms and secure long-term national progress.
Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo hosted the session, which drew an influential roster of attendees, including:
Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State (speaking on behalf of APC governors in the region),
Senator Adams Oshiomhole,
Minister of Niger Delta Development, Abubakar Momoh,
Former Bayelsa Governor Timipre Sylva,
NDDC MD Samuel Ogbuku,
Deputy Governor of Edo, Dennis Idahosa,
Edo House Speaker, Blessing Agbebaku,
APC National Woman Leader, Mary Alile,
Edo APC Chairman, Jarret Tenebe,
And APC chieftain, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu.
The leaders not only affirmed their support for Tinubu but also passed a vote of confidence in Governor Okpebholo’s leadership in Edo.
They pointed to several of Tinubu’s policy successes such as the student loan programme and tax exemptions for low-income earners as concrete examples of his reform agenda in action.
Governor Okpebholo expressed gratitude for the show of unity and described the gathering as unprecedented in the region’s political history. “This is the first time our governors have come together like this, unified, in one room, to talk about Nigeria’s progress,” he remarked.
He praised Tinubu’s governance approach, calling him a “President of capacity” whose policies have enabled state-level development. Okpebholo reiterated his commitment to deliver 2.5 million votes for the president in Edo come 2027, brushing off opposition scepticism. “Why won’t it happen? I am already working, building roads,” he said confidently.
Highlighting recent infrastructure efforts in Uhunmwonde, including a road to former Governor Godwin Obaseki’s home village, Okpebholo declared that such projects would be impossible without strong federal backing. “2027 is settled in Edo State,” he added. “It’s our way of paying back.”
He concluded by describing Tinubu as a visionary leader whose reforms and infrastructure push reflect a deep commitment to Nigeria’s future. “Wherever he goes, we go,” he declared.
