Barrister Bashir Muazu Jodi has assumed his role as the new Chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) in Sokoto, committing to the advancement of legal independence, the rule of law, and the welfare of practitioners. Following a smooth electoral process, Jodi expressed that his primary goal is to foster a professional environment where lawyers can protect citizens’ rights impartially. With twenty years of experience in the field, the new leader aims to transform the local branch into a financially self-sustaining and highly capable body.
Jodi emphasized that the association must serve as a courageous advocate for justice. He intends to work closely with the Bench and state authorities to streamline legal proceedings, noting that the timely resolution of cases is essential to maintaining public trust in the judiciary. Furthermore, the chairman plans to prioritize mentorship programs for junior lawyers, ensuring they receive proper guidance to navigate their careers with integrity.
Addressing systemic issues, Jodi highlighted the urgent need to tackle prison overcrowding through collaboration with relevant agencies. He believes that by supporting faster trials for those awaiting judgment, the branch can fulfill both its legal and humanitarian duties. Ultimately, he envisions a more unified and respected Sokoto Bar that remains steadfast in its dedication to constitutional principles and ethical practice.
