Nasir El-Rufai Appears in Kaduna Court for Financial Misconduct Trial

Former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai appeared in court today to face ongoing corruption charges brought by the ICPC, following earlier delays in the proceedings.

Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, has reached the Federal High Court in Kaduna to resume his legal proceedings regarding accusations of financial irregularities and illicit wiretapping. The case was filed by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). He entered the courthouse surrounded by a heavy security detail.

This trial, which covers charges related to fraud, abuse of office, and financial mismanagement during his gubernatorial term, faced a delay when two other defendants missed a previous hearing scheduled for June 24, 2026. While the ICPC maintains that it holds substantial proof against him, El-Rufai continues to plead not guilty.

On April 14, 2026, Justice Rilwan Aikawa set his bail at N200 million. The conditions stipulated that he provide two sureties: a traditional leader and a civil servant at or above Grade Level 15. The court previously rejected a request from his legal team to modify these bail requirements. The upcoming session expects the presence of all co-defendants to move the substantive hearing forward.
