Twelve people have been killed and dozens more injured after a bus crashed into a concrete structure and was sliced in half in India.

The vehicle was en route from the Salasar Balaji Temple, a prominent place of worship, in Rajasthan’s Sikar when it collided with a section of the flyover in Laxmangarh while making a turn.

Police believe the bus was speeding at the time of the incident.

So far, 12 fatalities have been confirmed, including the unnamed driver, with around 40 others reported injured.

Photos from the scene depict the mangled remains of the bus. A crane was used to remove the wreckage as the search for survivors continued.

Rajasthan Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma expressed his sorrow on X, stating, “The loss of life in the bus accident in Sikar’s Laxmangarh area is extremely sad and heartbreaking. My deepest condolences are with the bereaved families of the deceased.”

“The concerned officials have been directed to ensure proper treatment of the injured. I pray to Lord Shri Ram to give place to the departed souls in his feet and grant speedy recovery to the injured.”

Families of those killed in the accident will receive 200,000 Indian Rupees (around £1,829), as announced by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Those injured in the crash will receive 50,000 Indian Rupees (£450).

Injured individuals have been transported to Jaipur for treatment. Some of the deceased have been identified locally, and efforts are ongoing to confirm the identities of the others. Family members have been informed where possible.

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee President Govind Singh Dotasra expressed his condolences, stating, “My deepest condolences to those who lost their loved ones in this sad and unfortunate accident. As soon as the accident was reported, we spoke to local administrative officials to ensure immediate treatment for the injured and to provide all possible assistance.”

“May God give peace to the souls of the departed and strength to the families to bear this shock.”
