Senator Zwingina Passes Away at 70

Former Senator Jonathan Silas Zwingina, who served as the Director-General of the MKO Abiola campaign organization during the June 12, 1993, presidential election, has passed away.

Zwingina was the director general of the ‘Hope ’93’ presidential campaign for the late Chief Moshood Abiola of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the election that was annulled by former military president General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (Retd.).

The former lawmaker died on Wednesday at the age of 70 in Abuja after a prolonged illness.

Zwingina represented the Adamawa Southern Senatorial District and was a founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), serving in the Senate from 1999 and being reelected in April 2003.

He held positions on various Senate Committees, including Works & Housing, Establishment, Internal Affairs, Information, Special Projects, Privatization, and Economic Affairs.
