Schwarzenegger Says Immigrants Should Act as Honored Guests in the U.S
Arnold Schwarzenegger has entered the national conversation on immigration, calling for legal entry and respectful conduct from those seeking a new life in the United States.
The 77-year-old actor and former California governor shared his perspective during an appearance on The View on Tuesday, June 17. Reflecting on his own experience, Schwarzenegger recalled arriving in the U.S. from Austria at 21, alone and without financial support. He credits his success to hard work and a deep respect for the country’s legal framework.
“I came here legally with nothing but a dream,” he said. “No friends, no money but I believed in what this country stands for. That’s the magic of America.”
He emphasized that immigrants can thrive if they abide by the law and approach the country as respectful guests. “Follow the rules, and you can make it,” he said. “But coming here illegally and breaking laws—that’s just foolish.”
While making it clear that he supports immigration, Schwarzenegger drew a firm line on illegal entry, arguing that it undermines the system and public trust. “It’s not anti-immigrant to expect people to obey the rules. It’s about respect.”
His comments arrive at a volatile moment, as immigration raids, public protests, and bitter policy disputes dominate the national landscape. With his unique blend of immigrant grit, celebrity status, and political experience, Schwarzenegger’s voice adds a seasoned, personal lens to the ongoing debate.
