Arise Television host Rufai Oseni has suggested that the recent legal bid to revoke the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) is a strategic move to undermine opposition forces prior to the 2027 general elections. During Monday’s episode of The Morning Show, Oseni highlighted the suspicious timing of the lawsuit, noting it emerged just two days after Peter Obi announced his membership in the party.
Oseni detailed that Obi joined the NDC on May 3, while a lawsuit aiming to invalidate the party’s registration was initiated on May 5 by an anonymous group. The broadcaster labeled this a recurring trend, comparing it to previous legal challenges faced by other opposition factions. He questioned why these parties suddenly face scrutiny from groups that previously voiced no concerns.
Referencing recent controversies surrounding court rulings on the ADC, Oseni urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to provide the necessary access codes for the NDC to submit its documentation. He warned that obstructing the opposition threatens the integrity of the democratic process and public trust in upcoming elections. Oseni concluded by arguing that such maneuvering reveals a coordinated attempt to cripple opposition efforts, though he provided no direct evidence to back the assertion.
