Jiti Ogunye, a legal advisor to Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, has dismissed demands for his principal to step down regarding the ongoing PFIPC scandal. During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Ogunye asserted that Gbajabiamila maintained the fewest official connections with Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, the central figure in the dispute, relative to other high-ranking government officials.
Ogunye argued that if resignation were the standard for such a controversy, multiple other public officeholders would also be required to vacate their positions. He identified the Director-General of the Budget Office, the Head of the Civil Service, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, and the Accountant-General as individuals with more extensive documented interactions with the person involved.
Supporting his stance with official records and correspondence, the legal consultant emphasized that Gbajabiamila’s office had minimal engagement with the individual. He characterized the intense public scrutiny directed at the Chief of Staff as unfortunate, noting that those who directly managed requests and authored documentation are better positioned to provide explanations. Ogunye concluded that there is no logical reason to believe Gbajabiamila’s presence in office would impede any legitimate investigation into the matter.
