Rabiu Kwankwaso, the presidential running mate for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, stated he did not accept any money from security votes during his eight-year tenure as governor of Kano State. He shared this information during an appearance on the News Central program 60 Minutes with Mr Kay, where he discussed his party’s strategy for addressing corruption if elected.
Emphasizing his record, Kwankwaso remarked that his administration maintained integrity, suggesting that national progress must begin with clean leadership. He noted that citizens deserve high-quality governance and that his party is preparing a functional system for the country.
Addressing the concept of state police, the former governor identified it as a symptom of a significant leadership deficit within Northern Nigeria. He expressed strong concerns regarding the implementation of regional police forces, warning that governors might weaponize such units for political shielding. He further cautioned against the widespread proliferation of small arms, noting that even groups like Hisbah operate without firearms.
