Wike Claims Scheme to Tarnish Tinubu Government Targeted Gbajabiamila

FCT Minister Nyesom Wike claims the recent corruption allegations against Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila are a calculated attempt to smear the reputation of President Tinubu’s administration.

Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, stated on Thursday that Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, was singled out as part of a strategy to damage the administration’s reputation. This comment follows reports of a corruption scandal involving Gbajabiamila and Adeniyi Adeyemi, who claims to lead the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council.

During a media briefing in Abuja, Wike defended the Chief of Staff, asserting that Gbajabiamila would not engage in such fraudulent activity. He argued that officials like the Chief of Staff, the finance lead, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation are typical targets for those wishing to embarrass the presidency. Wike characterized the allegations as nonsensical, noting that the Chief of Staff lacks the authority to create budgets. He further called for the interrogation of Adeyemi, questioning why the individual is evading authorities if his claims are legitimate.

Additionally, Wike rejected calls for an investigation from Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate for the African Democratic Congress, describing them as irrelevant. He dismissed Atiku’s input, suggesting that such demands are hypocritical and that the opposition should focus on their own future political ambitions rather than interfering with current governance.
