President Bola Tinubu has formally opened the Akinwumi Ajibola Street development in Abuja’s Gaduwa District, encompassing local streets 16, 18, and 19. Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, the President lauded FCT Minister Nyesom Wike for establishing a more efficient approach to infrastructure development. The President noted that Wike addressed long-standing neglect by securing funding and mandating that contractors complete their work, effectively ending a history of abandoned projects.
During the ceremony, Tinubu emphasized that these improvements are vital for increasing property values, enhancing accessibility, and reducing travel times for residents. He encouraged the local community to maintain the new roads by keeping drains clear and protecting street lighting. Meanwhile, Minister Wike issued a firm warning to the Chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, Christopher Maikalangu, regarding the unauthorized naming of federal projects. Wike asserted that while naming streets is typically a local government function, the Federal Government must provide consent before any name is attached to a road built with federal funds.
Wike highlighted that this project is part of a 31-day schedule of infrastructure commissionings marking the administration’s three-year anniversary. Minister of State Dr. Mariya Mahmoud also spoke at the event, confirming the government’s ongoing commitment to urban renewal across both the city center and surrounding satellite towns as part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
