Bolaji Abdullahi, the National Publicity Secretary for the African Democratic Congress (ADC), has issued a stern warning to President Bola Tinubu. He stated that the outcome would be dire if former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai suffers any harm while in custody.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) initially detained El-Rufai in February 2026. The detention follows allegations involving financial misconduct, abuse of office, and money laundering during his time in government. He remains held under an extended remand order granted by an Abuja Magistrate Court citing the 2015 Administration of Criminal Justice Act.
During a discussion on Symponi TV, Abdullahi asserted that the current administration is keeping the former governor detained specifically to weaken the opposition for the 2027 elections. He argued that the judicial process should determine guilt, rather than prolonged state-sanctioned detention. Abdullahi emphasized that President Tinubu would bear full personal responsibility for any misfortune befalling El-Rufai while he is under the government’s watch.
