Police Thwart Third Assassination Attempt on Donald Trump
U.S. police have reported that they thwarted a third assassination attempt against former President Donald Trump.
A man from Las Vegas was arrested near a Trump rally in Coachella Valley, with weapons and counterfeit passes, according to Riverside County Sheriff Chad Bianco.
The individual, identified as Vem Miller, was stopped at a checkpoint where officers discovered a shotgun, a loaded handgun, and a high-capacity magazine, as stated in a news release from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department.
Bianco indicated that Miller, who he described as a member of a right-leaning anti-government group, intended to kill Trump, and the deputies prevented this plan when Miller presented fake VIP and press passes at the checkpoint.
“They were different enough to cause the deputies alarm,” Bianco told the group. “We probably stopped another assassination attempt.”
Bianco stated that Miller identifies as a so-called sovereign citizen, a group that believes they are not subject to government laws unless they consent to them.
Miller was arrested for possessing a loaded firearm and a high-capacity magazine, but he was released on Sunday after posting $5,000 bail for each of his two misdemeanors, according to police records.
This incident comes as Trump’s campaign remains on high alert following two previous assassination attempts against the former president.
The first occurred at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, when a 20-year-old named Thomas Matthew Crooks shot Trump in the right ear before being killed by Secret Service.
Just two months later, on August 15, a second attempt took place when a 58-year-old named Ryan Wesley Routh was arrested in Florida for allegedly aiming a rifle at Trump while he was golfing.
