Police apprehend an attendant in Niger state who fled with his employer’s POS machine, using it to withdraw N170,000 for gambling purposes.

Operatives of the Niger State Police Command have arrested a POS attendant for alleged fraud in Bosso Local Government Area of the state.

Spokesperson of the command, SP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Monday, May 6, 2024, said the suspect, Augustine Odiokwu Nonso, absconded with his employer’s POS machine, withdrew N170,000 and used it to play Naijabet.

“On 17/4/2024 at about 1130hrs, based on a direct complaint received at Bosso Div, that a POS attendant one Augustine Odiokwu Nonso 28yrs of Bosso Estate absconded with a POS machine and some money to an unknown destination,” the statement read.

“Upon receipt of the complaint, Police operatives attached to the Div with the aid of technical intelligence on 20/4/2024 arrested the suspect within Bosso Estate, he confessed to the crime and about #170,000 was discovered to have been stolen by him.

“He claimed that he used the money to play Naija bet at different locations. Suspect has been charged to court for prosecution.”
