Plateau Immigration Command Identifies Illegal Stay by Foreign Nationals

The Plateau State NIS Command has detected foreign nationals overstaying their work permits and is calling for state support to improve patrol capabilities.

The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) Plateau State Command has identified several foreign nationals residing in the region past their authorized visa period. Mary Abang, the Plateau State Comptroller, announced these findings while meeting with Governor Caleb Mutfwang in Jos.

Abang reported that some individuals arrived on 30-day work permits but stayed for over a year following the expiration of their documents. In response, the NIS has ramped up its efforts to track, capture, and deport those without valid documentation through enhanced surveillance.

To assist with these enforcement duties, Abang requested that the state provide better logistics, specifically motorcycles and vehicles. These resources are necessary for agents to reach isolated mining sites where undocumented migrants are frequently located.

Governor Mutfwang praised the NIS for its role in national security and confirmed that his administration would continue to cooperate with the agency. He emphasized that intelligence sharing and vigilance at the local government level are vital for managing migration and reducing security risks. The governor promised further assistance to ensure the command has the operational tools required to fulfill its mission.
