Paul Pogba Engages in Talks with Juventus to End Contract Despite Reduced Doping Ban
Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba is currently in discussions with the Serie A club to terminate his contract.
Although his current deal runs until June 2026, the 31-year-old is expected to come to a mutual agreement with Juventus to end it early.
Pogba received a ban after failing a doping test following his appearance for Juventus in their opening match of the 2023-24 season against Udinese on August 20.
He tested positive for DHEA, a prohibited substance that enhances endogenous testosterone levels.
However, Pogba’s management team is contesting the decision at the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
On Friday, the French international received a favorable ruling regarding his appeal, as the CAS upheld the four-year suspension issued in February.
However, the ban, which began on September 11, 2023, has been reduced to 18 months and will now conclude in March 2025.
Additionally, the original fine of 5,000 euros has been rescinded.
The ruling also permits Pogba to resume training in January 2025.
However, Juventus head coach Thiago Motta stated that the club has not yet determined the next steps regarding the former Manchester United midfielder.
“The club will decide what to do about Pogba. Pogba was a great player. He hasn’t played for a long time. I’m focused on tomorrow’s game, the rest doesn’t matter,” said Motta to reporters in a press conference.
CAS is set to officially announce their verdict on Pogba’s appeal on Monday.
