Ondo Farmer Sentenced to One Year in Prison for Stealing and Damaging Phone
A 23-year-old farmer, Godwin Onah, has been sentenced to one year in prison by the Chief Magistrates Court in Odigbo, Ondo State, after pleading guilty to stealing a mobile phone.
Chief Magistrate Festus Akinlolu delivered the conviction following Onah’s guilty plea to two charges: theft and malicious damage.
Prosecutor Inspector Usifoh James informed the court that Onah had stolen a Tecno Spark 8 handset, valued at N150,000, from James Femi and intentionally damaged the phone. The offense contravenes Section 390 (9) and 451 of the Criminal Code, Cap 37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State, Nigeria, 2006.
Inspector Usifoh noted that no further proof was necessary, as Onah’s statement had already confirmed his guilt. Consequently, Onah was sentenced to one year of imprisonment for each of the two counts, with both sentences to be served concurrently.
