The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, will on Friday elevate Governor Seyi Makinde’s elder brother, Olumuyiwa Makinde, alongside eight other chiefs in the Otun Olubadan line.

Olumuyiwa Makinde, an Ibadan-based lawyer, will be promoted from Aare Onibon to Gbonka Olubadan. Prominent businessman and engineer, Dotun Sanusi, will also move up from Ajia to Bada Olubadan.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Olubadan’s media aide, Adeola Oloko. According to the statement, the ceremony will hold at the Oke-Aremo Palace in Ibadan North Local Government Area, beginning at 11 a.m., with members of the Olubadan-in-Council expected to be in attendance.

Oba Ladoja had performed his first official traditional assignment on November 7, 2025, when he elevated five chiefs in the Olubadan line. Those promoted at the time included Oba Eddy Oyewole-Foko, who moved from Osi Olubadan to Otun Olubadan; Oba Kola Daisi, elevated from Asipa to Osi Olubadan; and Oba Hamidu Ajibade, who rose from Ekerin to Asipa Olubadan.

Others promoted then were Oba Muritala Akande, who moved from Ekarun to Ekerin Olubadan, and Chief Kola Babalola, elevated from Abese to Ekarun Olubadan.

Oba Ladoja ascended the throne following the death of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin, who passed away on July 7, 2025, at the age of 90.

According to the latest statement, House of Representatives member, Akin Alabi, will be elevated from Jagun to Ajia Olubadan. However, promotion from Mogaji to the highly competitive Jagun Olubadan title has been suspended until further notice.

Other chiefs slated for promotion include Chief Dauda Gbadamosi, who will move from Aare Ago to Ayingun Olubadan; Chief William Akande from Lagunna to Aare Ago Olubadan; Chief Oluyinka Akande from Oota to Lagunna Olubadan; and Chief Olufemi Ogunwale from Aare-egbe Omo to Oota Olubadan.

Also listed for elevation are Chief Wasiu Aderoju Alaadorin, who will move from Gbonka to Aare-egbe Omo Olubadan, and Chief Abiola Anlamole, who will be promoted from Bada to Aare Onibon Olubadan.
