NMA Applauds Otti for Implementing 100% Salary Increase for Doctors
The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Abia State Chapter, has praised Governor Alex Otti for approving the full implementation of the 100 per cent Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS) for doctors employed by the state government.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Umuahia, the state NMA Chairman, Dr. Ezinwa Ezuruike, expressed the association’s gratitude, describing the April 29 announcement as a landmark decision that reinstates long-overdue salary parity for state-employed doctors.
Ezuruike emphasized that the move highlights Governor Otti’s ongoing commitment to strengthening the healthcare system and enhancing the welfare of medical professionals in Abia State.
“By aligning Abia’s medical salary structure with the federal CONMESS, the governor has once again demonstrated visionary leadership and a deep appreciation of the sacrifices and critical contributions of healthcare workers,” he stated.
The statement read, “This strategic investment in human resources for health is a bold and timely step towards revitalising our state’s health system.
“As an association, we reaffirm the unwavering commitment of our members to delivering quality healthcare services across the state.
“We see this gesture not just as a fulfilment of a promise but as a call to renewed dedication and excellence in our service to the good people of Abia.”
The association further acknowledged the efforts of the Commissioner for Health, Prof. Enoch Uche; the Governor’s Special Adviser on Health, Dr. Ngozi Azodo; and other key stakeholders for their vital contributions toward making the achievement possible.
