Nigeria and Senegal officials have agreed to reactivate their Joint Commission to improve economic and political cooperation between the two nations.

Nigeria and Senegal have announced plans to reactivate their Joint Commission to strengthen relations between the two nations. This initiative was shared through an official statement by Kimiebi Ebienfa, a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on Saturday in Abuja.

The agreement was solidified during a bilateral meeting between Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb. Sola Enikanolaiye, and the Senegalese Foreign Minister, Cheikh Niang. Their discussion occurred during the ECOWAS Mid-Year Summit held in Freetown, Sierra Leone.

Ambassador Enikanolaiye praised the existing ties between the countries as excellent and noted that the commission would serve as a vital tool for expanding cooperative opportunities. He stressed that streamlining communication between ministerial officials is essential to improving both bilateral and multilateral consultations.

Beyond political ties, Enikanolaiye highlighted the need to boost commercial activities, aiming to ensure that political cooperation results in tangible economic growth for both populations. Minister Niang welcomed these efforts, commending Enikanolaiye’s professional approach during the Council of Ministers’ meeting. Niang agreed that increased engagement between the two officials will lead to more effective collaboration on shared regional interests.
