The National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO) has requested that all tiers of government prioritize solving the root economic and social issues currently driving national insecurity. Following the recent rescue of 39 students and seven teachers in Oyo State, who returned home after 56 days in captivity, the organization highlighted the urgent need to address poverty, unemployment, and systemic injustice.
Dawood Afolabi, the NACOMYO Coordinator for Oyo State, expressed joy over the safe release of the hostages. He commended the federal and state authorities along with security agencies for their efforts in bringing the captives home. However, he emphasized that lasting security depends on government action to foster job creation, improve educational access, and strengthen community initiatives.
According to Afolabi, sustainable stability in Nigeria is only possible if good governance and equal opportunities are guaranteed for all citizens. The organization specifically lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Oyo State government for their roles in the successful recovery of the victims, while reiterating that protecting lives remains a shared responsibility.
