Kebbi State Launches New Police Violent Crime Response Unit

DIG Sulaiman Muhammed Abdul has inaugurated a technology-driven Violent Crime Response Unit in Kebbi State to shift police operations from reactive to proactive crime prevention.

Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Northwest, Sulaiman Muhammed Abdul, officially introduced the Nigeria Police Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in Kebbi State this Wednesday. This initiative stems from a direct order by the Inspector General of Police to bolster nationwide efforts in curtailing criminal activity.

The VCRU distinguishes itself by utilizing advanced technology and data collection to identify planned offenses. Rather than reacting to incidents after the fact, the unit aims to preemptively stop crimes. By staying ahead of criminals, law enforcement intends to provide better protection for citizens across the country. Abdul also reminded officers in Kebbi to uphold professional integrity and respect human rights while serving. He reaffirmed that the Inspector General prioritizes the welfare, housing, and healthcare of police personnel.

Kebbi State Commissioner of Police, Umar Hadejia, noted that the region faces unique challenges due to its international borders, which have contributed to struggles with armed bandits and groups like Lakurawa and Mamudawa. Despite these pressures, local police have successfully countered these threats through persistent operations. Commissioner Hadejia expressed confidence that the newly inaugurated unit will significantly reinforce the command’s ability to maintain public order and prevent violence throughout the state.
