Law enforcement in Abia State has verified that five individuals from the same household passed away in the Umuimo village, located in the Osisioma Ngwa Local Government Area. The community remains in shock after the bodies were located inside the home.
Local residents noted that the family was last observed on Saturday, July 18. When no members were seen for several days, neighbors grew worried and entered the house on Monday morning to find the bodies. While some locals believe the family might have succumbed to carbon monoxide poisoning from a generator, official confirmation is pending.
DSP Maureen Chinaka, the Abia State Police spokesperson, stated that the investigation began after a relative of the victims reported being unable to contact them. Police personnel assisted the relative in accessing the locked home, where they discovered the remains in a state of decomposition. The bodies have been transported to a morgue for autopsies, and the police are continuing their investigation into the cause of death.
