Members of the Nigerian military operating under Operation Enduring Peace have secured custody of a man suspected of deserting the army. Police officers initially captured the individual during a search operation conducted within the Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State.
This development was shared on Friday by Zagazola Makama, a specialist in security and counter-insurgency. Relying on intelligence data, Makama identified the detainee as Yakubu Bilal. He was apprehended by the Keystone Police Division this past Wednesday. Soon after, soldiers from Sector 8 of Operation Enduring Peace arrived at the station to transfer the suspect into military hands for formal inquiry.
Initial reports indicate that Bilal allegedly abandoned his post at the 24 Task Force Brigade earlier this year without permission. Authorities have initiated contact with his former unit to handle required disciplinary steps. The suspect is currently detained at the Sector 8 headquarters in Mangu, where officials are continuing their investigation.
