On Thursday, individuals living in the Ankpechi community within the Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue State were compelled to abandon their homes following an incursion by suspected armed herdsmen. The raid, occurring around 8:00 a.m. along the Otukpo–Ogobia Road, involved attackers firing weapons to intimidate the local population.
Reports indicate that one person was wounded by gunfire and subsequently transported to a medical facility for urgent care. The attackers also targeted local businesses and food storage sites, stealing various food supplies before retreating. Adole, a local resident, described witnessing the chaos from a nearby school, noting that security forces eventually arrived to restore order.
Gabriel Adole, the Ohimini Local Government Council Chairman, confirmed the details of the assault. He stated that the perpetrators arrived in the morning, fired shots, and looted goods to sustain themselves. The chairman emphasized that he has notified the Governor and that security teams have been dispatched to secure the area and search the surrounding bushland. At this time, the Benue State Police Command has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident, and attempts to contact spokesperson DSP Udeme Edet have gone unanswered.
