Soldiers under Operation HADIN KAI successfully stopped a mass kidnapping attempt by militants linked to Boko Haram and ISWAP on the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Borno State. The intervention resulted in the rescue of 31 passengers and the recovery of four vehicles.
Security expert Zagazola Makama reported that the incident began at 3:45 p.m. on July 31. Surveillance cameras operated by the 135 Special Forces Battalion at Echo 1, Dutsen Kura, identified suspicious activity as the terrorists intercepted travelers.
A Quick Reaction Force was dispatched immediately, engaging the militants in a firefight near the Mangari–Dora axis. Overwhelmed by the military response, the attackers abandoned their captives and escaped into the brush. Among the 31 rescued individuals were 22 men, five women, and four children.
Beyond the four cars, soldiers also seized a motorcycle discarded by the retreating fighters. No injuries were reported among the civilians or the military personnel. The freed travelers were escorted safely to Buratai to resume their journey.
