Military forces dismantle insurgent base and apprehend five in Benue operation

Operation Whirl Stroke troops destroyed a suspected militant hideout and arrested five suspects in Benue State during a targeted intelligence-led operation.

Soldiers from Operation Whirl Stroke have dismantled a suspected militant camp and taken five individuals into custody following a raid in the Ukum Local Government Area of Benue State. Security analyst Zagazola Makama confirmed the mission took place on August 1 around 11:00 a.m.

The targeted search covered multiple communities, including Atombagen, Chito, Tse Kighr, Tse Anaka, and Sabongida Leke. While some suspects escaped prior to the military arrival, forces eventually captured five people in Sabongida Leke suspected of engaging in local criminal activity.

During the sweep, troops razed the militant enclave along with various infrastructure previously used for operational support. This action is part of a broader military strategy to dismantle the supply lines and hideouts of armed groups operating in the region. Officials noted that the military intends to restrict the movement of these gangs through persistent pressure. The five detainees are currently being held for questioning as the investigation into their criminal network continues.
