Meghan Markle Returns To Acting After Eight-Year Break With Amazon MGM Cameo
Los Angeles, USA, Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is reportedly set to make her long-awaited return to acting after an eight-year hiatus, marking her first screen role since leaving the hit legal drama Suits in 2017.
According to Variety, Markle will make a cameo appearance as herself in Close Personal Friends, an upcoming Amazon MGM Studios production featuring an ensemble cast that includes Lily Collins, Brie Larson, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding.
Sources quoted by The Sun described the project as a “massive moment” for Markle, signalling her re-entry into the entertainment industry.
“She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right,” a source said. “It’s Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set. Everyone involved is super-excited and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement. Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
People Magazine also confirmed that Markle has already filmed her scenes, quoting a source who said she appeared “relaxed and happy” on set.
“She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth,” the insider revealed.
Markle’s return to acting comes nearly eight years after her final appearance as Rachel Zane on Suits, the USA Network series that catapulted her to global fame. She left the show in 2017 following her engagement to Prince Harry, whom she married the following year.
Since stepping back from royal duties in 2020, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have settled in Montecito, California, where they’ve pursued various media ventures through their Archewell foundation, including documentaries, podcasts, and social impact projects.
Her cameo in Close Personal Friends is widely seen as a soft reintroduction to Hollywood, one that could pave the way for a full-fledged comeback to the screen.
