Mass Wedding: Kebbi State Government Approves ₦54m for 300 Couples’ Dowry
The Kebbi State Government has begun preparations to sponsor the mass wedding of 300 couples, set to take place on February 27, 2025.
Chairman of the Organising Committee, Alhaji Suleiman Argungu, told reporters in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday, February 9, that the event is being organized in partnership with the Nafisa Nasir Charity Development Foundation (NANAS).
He stated that various committees have been established to oversee essential requirements such as pregnancy tests, genotype tests, HIV/AIDS tests, and other lawful marriage prerequisites in the state.
Argungu noted that the initiative fulfills a promise made by Governor Nasir Idris during the last mass wedding, pledging periodic events to support less privileged individuals in getting married.
As part of the sponsorship, the state government will provide N180,000 as dowry for each bride across the 21 Local Government Areas, totaling N54 million for all 300 beneficiaries.
“Other additional items will be provided such as room furniture and foodstuffs to all the couples to consolidate their marital relationship.”
