Man Arrested for Alleged Social Media Threat to Kill Donald Trump
Authorities in Arizona have arrested 66-year-old Ronald Syvrud after he allegedly threatened to kill former President Donald Trump on social media.
Ronald Lee Syvrud, 66, of Cochise County, made death threats against Trump in social media posts over the past fortnight.
Syvrud was taken into custody in Cochise County on Thursday, August 22, without incident, according to Carol Capas, spokeswoman for the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials had been looking for Syvrud, who they considered an “investigative lead for threats to kill a presidential candidate.”
Capas told NewsNation the threats against Trump, the Republican candidate for president, were made on social media.
The 66-year-old has several outstanding warrants on separate charges, including for a DUI and failing to appear in court in Wisconsin. He’s also wanted for failing to register as a sex offender and a hit-and-run in Arizona.
The alleged threats came ahead of Trump’s visit to the U.S.-Mexico border in Cochise County on Thursday.
When authorities went to arrest Syvrud at his home on Wednesday evening, they couldn’t locate him, Capas confirmed.
The threats come just six weeks after Trump survived an assassination attempt in Pennsylvania.
