Los Angeles Hit by 3.9-Magnitude Earthquake Following Oscars 2025

An earthquake rattled Los Angeles hours after the 2025 Academy Awards ceremony concluded in Hollywood.

The 3.9-magnitude tremor struck North Hollywood at around 10:13 p.m. on Sunday, according to the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Shaking was reportedly felt across Los Angeles, including in Pasadena, Long Beach, San Fernando Valley, Torrance, Redondo Beach, and Glendale, as reported by NBC Los Angeles.

There have been no immediate reports of injuries or damages, according to ABC 7.

The Los Angeles Fire Department stated on X that they would not enter “earthquake mode” following the quake.

“Earthquake mode” is when first responders assess damage following a significant earthquake, including damage to buildings and infrastructure.

The quake occurred just hours after the conclusion of the 97th Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.

Shaking was reportedly seen on a live stream of an afterparty hosted by *Vanity Fair* at the Wallis Annenberg Center, about 4 miles away from the Dolby Theatre, according to The Sun.

More than 9,000 people reported feeling the quake on Sunday using the USGS’s “Did you feel it?” tool.

Attendees at an exclusive afterparty at the Governors Ball at the Ovation Hollywood Complex allegedly felt the shaking from the quake, a source told The Hollywood Reporter.

Sunday night’s earthquake follows a series of quakes that have rattled California in 2025.

Two earthquakes, measuring 3.7 and 3.5 magnitudes, respectively, struck the Malibu area last month, according to reports.

Additionally, two quakes of 3.4 and 3.2 magnitudes occurred around noon on February 14 near the city of Hayward, just south of San Francisco, as reported by the US Geological Survey.
