Liverpool Goalkeeper Alisson Out For Six Weeks Due to Hamstring Injury
Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker is expected to be out for approximately six weeks due to a hamstring injury, which will keep him from important matches against Chelsea and Arsenal.
The 32-year-old Brazilian sustained the injury during last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace and was substituted in the late stages of the match.
British press reports indicate that tests have confirmed Alisson is unlikely to return until after next month’s international break.
His earliest potential comeback could be in Liverpool’s away match against Southampton on November 24.
Arne Slot’s Premier League leaders are set to face Chelsea on October 20 and Arsenal the following week, while their next two Champions League matches will be against RB Leipzig and Bayer Leverkusen.
Caoimhin Kelleher, who missed the match against Crystal Palace due to illness, is expected to step in as Alisson’s replacement, as he did last season when Alisson was sidelined with a similar hamstring injury.
Speaking after the victory over Crystal Palace, Slot acknowledged that his first-choice goalkeeper would likely face a significant period out.
“We have to wait and see, but it will be a few weeks before he’s back. I think it’s his hamstring,” he said.
“He’s clearly our number one, the best goalkeeper in the world. It’s always a blow when he’s injured, not just for him but for us as a team.”
Liverpool currently has 18 points from seven Premier League matches, placing them one point ahead of defending champions Manchester City and Arsenal.
