The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has promised residents that the current accumulation of refuse on state roads will be resolved shortly. Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, the Managing Director of LAWMA, shared this update during the unveiling of rehabilitated roads and new disposal platforms at the Olusosun facility in Ojota.
Dr. Gbadegesin explained that these improvements are part of a targeted plan to remove operational hurdles and speed up waste disposal. By upgrading the site, the agency expects to clear the existing backlog of trash. He confirmed that the facility’s expansion provides the necessary space to manage the waste effectively while the agency transitions away from the site over an 18-month timeline.
However, the director emphasized that maintaining a clean environment requires public cooperation. He noted that some individuals continue to dump waste on medians rather than utilizing authorized PSP operators. Gbadegesin urged citizens to rely on official channels, pay for services promptly, and report any collection delays directly to LAWMA.
