The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) announced on Monday that it responded to at least 1,367 incidents between January and October.

This was shared by Mr. Nosa Okunbor, Head of the agency’s Public Affairs Unit, in Lagos.

Okunbor provided a breakdown, reporting that the agency attended to 141 incidents in January and 156 in February.

“In March, we responded to 148 incidents; in April, 132; May, 147; June, 126; July, 123; August, 121; September, 126; and October, 147.

“This totals 1,367 incidents handled by the agency this year, with an overall total of 7,809 incidents responded to by LASEMA since 1 June 2019,” he said.

He highlighted that road traffic accidents were the most common incidents, with 50 vehicular accidents recorded.

“This was followed by 43 incidents in the truck and tanker category, including 35 accidents and 8 breakdowns, with 20 medical emergencies in third place.

“We also attended to 17 fire-related emergencies, consisting of 16 fire outbreaks, one burnt vehicle, and a BRT incident, among others,” Okunbor added.

He further noted that the Local Government Emergency Trends indicated that Alimosho Local Government Area recorded the highest number of incidents in October.

“Of the 20 local government areas in the state, Alimosho ranked highest with 29 of the 147 incidents recorded during this period.

“Oshodi-Isolo followed with 20 incidents, Ikeja with 18, and Kosofe with 14.

“Eti-Osa recorded 12 incidents; Lagos Island, 10; Epe, eight; while Apapa and Mainland recorded six each,” he explained.

“Agege and Surulere registered five incidents each, while Ojo and Mushin had three each.

“Shomolu and incidents outside the Lagos boundary recorded two incidents each, while Amuwo-Odofin, Ibeju-Lekki, Ikorodu, and Ifako-Ijaiye each recorded one incident.

“However, no incidents were recorded in Ajeromi-Ifelodun and Badagry local government areas,” Okunbor concluded.
