Authorities in Lagos State have deferred the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) papers initially set for Wednesday, July 1, 2026. This change comes in response to the Oro Festival occurring within the Ikorodu Division.
The Lagos State Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education, via the Examinations Board, clarified that only the Wednesday exams are impacted. All other scheduled assessments will proceed as planned. The board noted that the 2026 BECE commenced smoothly on June 29, 2026, and this single adjustment resulted from discussions with key stakeholders.
To ensure the safety of students and staff and to maintain an orderly testing environment, the postponed papers are now set for Tuesday, July 7, 2026. The board extended its apologies for any disruptions and requested the cooperation of parents, school leaders, and the public. Students are encouraged to retrieve updated schedules from their schools to prepare accordingly. The Lagos State Examinations Board remains focused on delivering secure and reliable testing standards.
