The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) intends to oversee education projects throughout Borno State. This initiative is designed to ensure accountability, transparency, and high service standards within local primary and secondary institutions.
Linus Gubbi, the ICPC Resident Anti-Corruption Commissioner for Borno and Yobe, announced the plan following a meeting with the Borno State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Maiduguri. The session focused on sharing knowledge regarding procurement procedures and enhancing existing whistle-blowing protocols.
Gubbi emphasized that the outreach aims to instill the National Ethics and Integrity Policy within the education sector. Once final authorization is granted by the commission’s headquarters, oversight will begin on key infrastructure projects, such as school classroom construction. The commissioner reassured SUBEB staff that legal protections exist for those who report corruption, encouraging active participation from employees.
Dr. Hyelni Mshelia, the Permanent Secretary of Borno SUBEB, praised the session as an informative experience that clarified regulatory expectations. She pledged that the board would refine its practices to ensure full compliance with public service guidelines.
