A sense of uncertainty surrounds the kidnapping of Bayo Fabiyi, a leader within the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), in the Oko-Irese community of Kwara State’s Irepodun Local Government Area. Fabiyi, along with a driver and an associate, disappeared while attempting to deliver a ransom intended to secure a previously abducted victim.
Reports indicate that the party was carrying 30 million Naira, three sacks of rice, and five motorcycles when gunmen intercepted them. It appears the victim they were hoping to rescue had already been killed, though the delivery team was unaware of this fact. The captors lured the group into a forest near the border of Kwara and Kogi states before seizing them at gunpoint.
Reports suggest that Fabiyi had received spiritual warnings against making the journey, which were ultimately disregarded. Initially, the incident was not reported to local authorities. Kwara State Police Commissioner Ojo Adekimi stated that his office had not received a formal report regarding the kidnapping of an OPC member but promised to initiate an investigation once official details are provided.
