Kano Police Arrest Six Notorious Phone Thieves Posing as Tricycle Riders
The Kano State Police Command has apprehended six suspected notorious mobile phone thieves allegedly operating across the Kano metropolis.
The command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, revealed in a statement on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, that the suspects specialized in posing as tricycle riders to steal passengers’ mobile phones.
Kiyawa added that 15 stolen phones and two tricycles used in their operations were recovered from the suspects.
“The Kano State Police Command has made a significant breakthrough in the arrest of six (6) suspected mobile phone thieves operating within Kano Metropolis and recovery of two of their operational tricycles and fifteen (15) mobile phones,” the statement read.
“The suspects were arrested between 11th and 15th of January, 2025 by a team of Police Operatives attached to Special Intervention Squad (SIS) of the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department.
“This achievement was made possible through credible information received and intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts and black spots within Kano Metropolis.
“Suspects arrested include Bashir Isah, Isyaku Bala, Mudansir Ayuba, Muzambil Abdullahi, Ibrahim Mohammed and Hassan Sagir.
“All the suspects of various addresses within Kano Metropolis confessed to the crime and further stated that they specialized in disguising as Tricycle Riders and stealing of passengers mobile phones.
“Items recovered: Two (2) Operational Tricycles with Reg No. KBT-850WZ and DAL-113WZFifteen (15) Mobile Phones.
“The Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command, CP Salman Dogo Garba commended the officers and men involved in the operation for their professionalism and dedication.
“He also appreciates the cooperation and support of the public, which led to the successes recorded. Anyone who recognizes his/her mobile phone or tricycle among the recovered items should report at the Public Relations Office, Kano State Command or contact: 07063407910.
“Finally, the CP warns that the Command will continue to crack down on all forms of criminality in the State, including mobile phone theft, armed robbery, thuggery (Daba), etc.
“He also urged residents to continue to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station or through the following mobile phone numbers: 08032419754, 08123821575, 09029292926.”
