Islamic Cleric Claims Using Satellite Dish Is A Sin, Warns Users Will Go To Hell
Sheikh Habeebullah Al-Ilory, a well-known Islamic cleric, recently warned Muslims against using satellite dishes, labeling it a forbidden act that could jeopardize their position in paradise. In his sermon, he emphasized that placing a satellite dish on one’s roof is not only contrary to Islamic teachings but also spiritually harmful. His remarks have sparked widespread debate, raising questions about the impact of modern technology on religious practices and spiritual obligations.
“Anybody who uses a satellite dish and hangs it on the roof of his house and dies will not enter paradise because he/she committed haram,” the scholar said.
In his sermon, Sheikh Habeebullah Al-Ilory also addressed other contentious topics, such as women’s involvement in politics and social reform within conservative Islamic societies. He pointed to the evolving policies in Saudi Arabia as an example of changing views within the Muslim world, highlighting how some traditional stances are being reconsidered. Sheikh Ilory’s remarks have fueled further discussions on how modern political and social changes are being navigated in relation to Islamic principles and values.
“If a woman drives a car or participates in politics, it’s haram. But women are not fighting for the right to drive cars in Saudi Arabia, and it’s no longer haram,” he said.
Sheikh Ilory recounted how he faced criticism in 2010 for supporting women’s participation in politics, a stance considered controversial at the time.
“When I said it earlier in 2010 that women can be involved in politics, people criticised me. Not long after my statements in 2010, Saudi Arabia allowed women to vote and participate in politics,” he added.
Criticizing a fellow cleric who condemned these developments, Sheikh Ilory stated,
“One Alfa who criticised this evolvement was quoting a part of the scripture I believe he has no understanding of.”
His remarks underscored his call for deeper interpretation and contextual understanding of religious texts in light of evolving societal norms
He further noted that Saudi Arabia now trains women in the military and permits them to wear trousers.
According to him, these are signs of progressive reform in the Islamic world.
